Sedation Dentistry Can Bring Back Your Healthy Smile

Posted .

Lengthy and invasive oral treatments can sometimes leave you feeling uncomfortable if you’re awake. In certain situations, our Sedona Dental Arts’s team will often recommend that you are sedated in some form for your own comfort. The length and invasiveness of the procedure, as well as your personal preference, will dictate what form of sedation is called for. Our dentists offer two types of sedation at our office: nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

Mild sedation is sometimes helpful for individuals that are struggling with dental anxiety. This can be as simply as breathing nitrous oxide. The gas leaves you fully awake to answer questions yet you feel at ease and relaxed.

Moderate sedation is often called for with procedures where you might need to hold your mouth open for a long period of time. This is also not uncommon for special needs patients that have involuntary body movements or dental anxiety.

The sedative agent used in moderate sedation often comes in the form of a pill you ingest before your appointment. While you may fall asleep during the treatment, you can easily be roused to answer questions. You will want to have someone drive you to and from your appointment while you are using this form of sedation.

If you have an upcoming procedure and are interested in exploring your sedation options, please call Sedona Dental Arts’s clinic in Sedona, Arizona at 928-282-1514 to find out how you can make your next visit as safe and comfortable as possible!
